Our ceramic classes at Gallery Seventeen cater to everyone from beginners exploring a new hobby, to seasoned artists looking for advanced techniques. The process of shaping clay into personalised masterpieces not only provides immense pleasure but also serves as a therapeutic outlet, making it perfect for relieving stress and enhancing mindfulness. We stand apart with our interactive teaching approach and a range of techniques to suit various skill levels. Whether you’re interested in pottery wheels or prefer hand-moulding, our classes are designed to meet diverse needs and aspirations. Ceramic class in process

An 8 week journey for all skill levels

Level: Mixed Ability – Suitable for absolute beginners and experienced ceramicists.

Course Length: 8 Weeks

Tutor: Sue Clark, a Camberwell College of Art graduate, specialises in hand-built, individually designed ceramic pieces, each with its own unique character.

Course Content:

  • Learn foundational techniques, including the coil and slab methods, guided by Sue.

  • Benefit from personalised, one-to-one tuition to bring your ideas to life, whether you wish to create vases, bowls, sculptures, wall plaques, or other unique pieces.

  • All work is created using slabs or coils, not wheel-throwing, making it accessible for all skill levels to craft beautiful and interesting ceramics.

  • After completing your piece, it will be bisque fired by Sue.

  • Explore a variety of glazing techniques and apply glazes to your creations before they are glaze-fired by Sue.

Cost: £205 (for the full 8-week course).

This course provides a welcoming and creative environment for anyone keen to explore ceramics, regardless of experience.

Weekend ceramic classes

Medium: Clay

Level: Mixed Ability – Perfect for both absolute beginners and experienced ceramicists.

Cost:

  • Four-day course: £420

  • Three-day course: £310
    All materials, kiln time, lunch, tea, and coffee are included. No hidden fees.

Weekend Course Timetable:

  • Saturday & Sunday: Plan and hand-build your ceramic pieces in a small group, with plenty of one-to-one guidance.

  • Monday (Optional):

    • Leave your work to dry for 2+ weeks and have its first firing.

    • Attend a Glaze Day, where you'll finalise your designs with colour and texture, and glaze your creations.

  • No prior experience with ceramics is required; hand-built pieces are crafted step by step with expert guidance.

  • Enjoy a relaxed and inspiring environment, working in a small group of no more than 8 participants in our well-equipped studio.

Gallery Seventeen is just around the corner from Beckenham Junction Station train and tram stops.

With regular trains to and from Victoria, London Bridge, Orpington and Bromley, and regular trams to Croydon and Wimbledon.

We are just across the road from a bus stop with buses to and from Shortlands, Bromley, Penge, Crystal Palace, Lewisham and Elmers End.

There is a pay and display car park over the road (the other side of St George’s Green)
